The Thames River

The Thames River begins in a swampy area of southwestern Ontario and meanders quietly for 273 km past the cities of Woodstock, London and Chatham-Kent to empty into Lake St. Clair. At the Forks, in London, the North Thames River joins it. The Thames was one of the first rivers in Ontario formed following the retreat of the last continental ice sheet 15 000 years ago. The river's upper reaches still flow through the ancient spillways. The lower reaches gently flow through flat plains of clay and sand that were laid down by glacial lakes.

Hiking & biking trails

East Park London

Through economic highs and lows, some things remain constant. At 1275 Hamilton Road – The place we call East Park – they would say one constant they’ve seen over the past 55 years is that people always make time to “play”.

Whether they are rocketing a little white ball down a fairway or throwing themselves down a waterslide, Londoners have made “playtime” a priority. That is why East Park has become London’s Place to Play!

Hamilton Dog Park

London’s first off-leash area, and also the largest, is located within Pottersburg Park. It can be accessed from Hamilton Road at Gore Road. This off-leash area has a completely fenced section and an open section delineated by boundary signs. Both sections offer trails through naturalized areas. There is also a separate area for small dogs. Site amenities include parking, double-gated entrances, garbage container, picnic tables and benches, rules sign, bulletin board, and portable toilet.

Please be considerate of other park users and leash your dog if you are using the paved Thames Valley Parkway outside of the designated area.

Golf and mini-golfing

Located minutes away from Old Victoria on the Thames East Park offers both a stunning 18-hole golf course and fun entertainment for the little ones. Designed by famous architect Robbie Robinson, the 18 hole beautifully landscaped course presents a picturesque setting for beginners and seasoned players. Voted London’s Best Golf Course in the London Free Press “Quality Service Reader Survey” East Park is an easy walking course, great for seniors and the perfect choice for a golf tournament.
